Content | Impressive capabilities of modern AI systems like ChatGPT bring great potential for learning but also challenges. Many instructors are unsure how to make use of this potential for their own teaching practices and how to ensure that students achieve key learning goals. This course will provide insights into the latest research on how to design effective feedback using AI. The course focuses on a) how instructors can use AI to enhance their own feedback practices, and b) how they can support their students in engaging in highly effective feedback processes with AI. Underlying these goals is a modern conception of feedback, in which instructors and students both contribute to the value of feedback opportunities. As instructors can improve their own competence in providing valuable feedback using AI, students can be supported in developing their own feedback literacy to make the most of the many new feedback opportunities arising through AI systems. In two practice sessions, we will explore how to facilitate productive and scalable feedback using AI, giving course participants ample opportunity to apply key principles to their own teaching context. |
Aims |
After attending this course, participants will be able to… … understand key tenets of modern feedback models and theories. … identify strengths and limitations of AI like ChatGPT for feedback. … develop a simple feedback system using AI like ChatGPT for their own teaching context. … systematically involve their students as feedback agents to make the most of feedback opportunities. … identify suitable opportunities to deploy feedback systems using AI like ChatGPT. |
